The Near Surface Profiling Buoy project (NSPB) is a buoy system intended to autonomously collect irradiance/radiance profiles from the upper layers of the ocean. This system is intended to validate and or aid in the calibration of satellite ocean color observations while being more cost effective in operations than deploying a ship to make profiles.
